WHAT SUCCESS FOR ME IS?

Is success for me to buy a luxurious house? Is it for me to stock plenty of money? Is it for me to buy an IPHONE13 MAX PRO? The answer is Ye...I mean No. These surely can be a path towards achieving success but surely can’t be termed as success per se. Success in its true sense is an abstract feeling which cannot be calibrated. We cannot look at people and say that ‘Yes, they are successful as they have huge mansions, a luxurious life, etc. We cannot imagine the problems they must have been facing incessantly in their everyday life. If money defines success, then surely the richest are successful and the poorest are losers.

But I have a divergent view on the definition of success. For me, it is the presence of serenity in my mind, composure in my heart, and contentment and gratification in my soul. If anyone has these elements in their lives, then even a rickshaw puller can be successful in his life and a jeweler can also be a loser in his life. It’s not about how much wealth you have, it’s about whether you are satiated with what you have or you want more and more.

Now, there is a difference between aim and greed but it doesn’t take much time for aim to transform into greed. Thus, a cautious vigilance over your mind is the need. As Guru Nanak Dev Ji says, “Bhavein dhan duniya da katha kar le, bhuk teri nyi mitni” which translates as “The greed and hunger for more and more won't get satiated even if you grab and store all the material possessions and wealth of this world”.

The amount of assets you have doesn’t define your happiness. Money can be a source of transient happiness but it surely cannot be an elixir of life. If money could have bought happiness, then every rich man would have reserved all the happiness and peace for himself, but it is not the case. To validate this, the example of Bill Gates would be apposite. Recently, we have heard the news of the separation of Bill and Melinda Gates and they stated that “we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple”. Thus, being the richest man also could not get him that warmth of marital relationship and happiness.

If you work to be delightful, tension free, and light-hearted, you are successful in your thoughts, you are successful in your actions, and you surely are going to be successful in your life because the ultimate reason behind all the hard work a person does is to achieve all these intangible possessions. Just have faith and keep doing it till the time your heart says, “HAAN, AB MUJHE SUKOON MILA” and mind says, AB MUJHE SHANTI MILI”.
