Rome was not built in a day!

By: Aastha Singhal, Roll No. 2279

Rome was not built in a day is an idiom which stands appropriate in today’s era. The true meaning being, ‘nothing great comes without hard work and steadfast pursuit of our aims.’ To achieve success in life, one needs to work hard. Then only dreams can become reality. Many people struggle in life but only a few achieve success. Therefore, everything takes time. So, one should only aim for determination in life. Success would definitely follow.

The stories of many great personalities have inspired me. They are the ones who achieved true success in life and changed the world and introduced new ways of thinking in the society. But this is only possible through hard work and dedication. One of the stories that has inspired me is that of our former Indian cricket team captain M.S. Dhoni. Before he became the captain of the Indian team he was a goalkeeper.

But a cricket coach chose him as a wicketkeeper. Since Dhoni was new to cricket at that time, he had to work hard in batting. Dhoni worked day and night to improve his batting. So he became a regular member of the team. Dhoni helped his team win an inter-school cricket match. He achieved much fame. Moreover, he even got selected in for the Ranji Trophy. For some reason, Dhoni could not reach Kolkata on time and his organization held up his draft notice. Yet, Dhoni did not give up. In order to please his father, he joined Indian Railways and worked as a ticket collector there.

But after some time, he got frustrated with his manager. Thereafter fore he was ino depression. He finally decided to play cricket while doing his job. With his hard work, he got into Railways. Even more, he applied for the Under-19 Indian cricket team. But Dhoni was not able to gain success though he got selected for Duleep Trophy.

Dhoni was not able to concentrate on his practice because of his job. So, he convinced his father that he would leave his job. He worked hard and practiced endlessly. Due to his hard work, he got a chance in the National Cricket Team. Dhoni made his first debut in the team. During his whole career, Dhoni had to face a lot of problems, but he never lost hope. Moreover, he took India to the next level in his captaincy. And he became a popular figure across the world.

We all have a lot to learn from this example set before us. In order to lead a successful life, one needs to work very hard. Moreover, this hard work can go for a long period of time and to excel in your work you have to spend a lot of time on it without losing hope.
